Wood Buffalo RCMP respond to stabbing – Update 1

A heavy police presence remains in the downtown area of Fort McMurray as RCMP continue to investigate a stabbing that took place earlier in the day.

The male victim has succumbed to his injuries, and the Major Crimes Unit Edmonton North has been engaged to assist with the investigation into his death.

At this time, it is believed that this is an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the public.

Wood Buffalo RCMP respond to stabbing

On Jan. 6, 2021, at approximately 3 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing in the downtown area of Fort McMurray. There is a heavy police presence responding to this incident, and the public is asked to stay away from the area. There is no threat to the general public at this time.

Preliminary investigation reveals one adult male victim sustained injuries. RCMP members provided medical assistance until Emergency Medical Services arrived. Victim was transported by ground ambulance to hospital.

Wood Buffalo RCMP General Duties, Municipal Traffic Services, General Investigation Services, Police Dog Services, Forensic Identification Services and Integrated Traffic Unit attended the scene and are in search of a suspect. Wood Buffalo RCMP's investigation is ongoing.

An update will be provided when available and the public/media are thanked for their cooperation in avoiding the area.
